Asian-themed decor continues to be very popular in the world of home decoration. Asian design tends to focus on creating tranquility and harmony in the home using minimal clutter, clean lines and bringing elements of nature into the home. When choosing paint colors that best complement an Asian designed room, the possibilities are endless.
Asian design seeks to bring balance and harmony into the home, and this can be done in numerous ways. If you are looking at a more Japanese Zen-style design, soft neutral paints taken from nature will look lovely. Pale earth tones like khaki and sage, or water tones such as gentle blues and grays will create a soothing environment and set a lovely backdrop. Frequently, wood is used as a design element and those colors will contrast beautifully with both darker wood trim and furnishings such as ebony, or lighter woods such as bamboo. Bringing in elements of nature such as plants, jade or stone, or a fountain is a lovely way to accessorize this style of room while keeping clutter to a minimum.
If you are choosing to go with a more rich, opulent design seen in Chinese-themed styles, look at vivid paint colors. While red most commonly associated with Chinese design, it’s not the only option. Golden yellows, royal purples, and deep grays are also great choices that are seen often in this style. Black lacquered wood and dark walnut are traditionally used for furnishings and either one looks great with dramatic paint colors.
While theme is of course important in choosing a paint color, the amount of light and the size of your room are just as important. If the room is small or gets very little light, consider using a bright white – it looks great with the natural elements of Zen decor, but it also can create a great modern look with blacks and reds. It matches virtually everything and allows you to decorate in a wider variety of options. White will also reflect light while creating a sense of space. You can also consider an accent wall in a more vivid color while painting the other walls a lighter shade of the same color.
The most important thing to consider when painting a room is factoring in what you love. Incorporate your own tastes and styles to make your home perfect for you. If you use what you love, it will always look great in your own eyes.
